The health questionnaire asked a ton of questions. Why do you need all this info?
In order to make the formula personalized, we need to know about every aspect of your health. In TCM, we use a holistic approach known as Pattern Diagnosis to get a full picture of your health, so that no area is isolated from treatment. For a more in-depth explanation, check out this article.
How do I start a return?
We want you to be happy with your treatment! That’s why we check in monthly with a feedback form to see how you’re feeling. Every woman’s body is different, and while many will feel an improvement after 1 month, if you’re not seeing benefits after 3 months of consistent usage, please email us at email@example.com to activate the returns process. In order to qualify for a return, please ensure that you have: been on a subscription plan for at least 3 months, taken the post-treatment health assessment each month provided detailed feedback about where you feel your expectations were not...
What is your return policy?
Plant-based medicine take time to heal the body. That’s why we offer risk-free returns on our 3-month subscription plan. To feel the full benefits, we recommend consistently taking the Cycle Balancer for at least 2-3 months. To give your body the opportunity to feel a change, returns can only be initiated after 3 months of usage.
How do I use for best results?
The herbs are meant to be taken in the 5-7 days leading up to your cycle, twice per day, 6 full squeezes of the dropper. If your cycle starts without warning, you can still take the herbs! They are most effective when you are able to get ahead of the symptoms, but they still work when you are already experiencing pain/PMS- you just may need to increase your dosage frequency to 3-4x/ day. It is important to finish the entire bottle with each cycle in order to see the most impactful and long-lasting results.
Can I take too much of the herbs?
While the herbs are safe in the prescribed dose, there is always a point of diminishing return with supplements, known as the Tolerable Upper Intake Level. Please do not exceed 40 mL/day (2/3rds of the bottle).
What if my periods are irregular?
Having an irregular cycle can make judging when to take the herbs a bit of a guessing game, but you can start taking them at any sign that your cycle is coming (maybe mood swings, breast tenderness, cramping, etc). You then take them twice per day, 6 full squeezes of the dropper. If your cycle starts without warning, you can still take the herbs! They are most effective when you are able to get ahead of the symptoms, but they still work when you are already experiencing pain/PMS- you just may need to increase your dosage frequency to 3-4x/ day.
What if my period comes late?
If you’ve finished your herbs and your period hasn’t come, the herbs will still have prepared your body for the coming menstruation. Hang tight! If your period is more than 1-1.5 weeks delayed, you may need to order more Cycle Balancer for maximum effectiveness.
What if my period comes early?
If your period comes early, please continue to take your Cycle Balance formula until you have used the entire bottle (and especially while you are still experiencing any cycle-related symptoms). The herbs have been shown to help to relieve your symptoms in the current cycle and also to balance your hormones in preparation for the month to come. We developed the formula strength to be used in its entirety with each cycle, so it is important to use the whole bottle for maximum efficacy and satisfaction.
What if I forget to take a dose or forget to start the herbs one week before my period comes?
That’s ok! We have you take the herbs ahead of menstruation because some of the herbs take time to build up in your body for maximum effectiveness. However, some of the herbs are designed to be effective the moment you start taking them so you will see benefits no matter when you start taking them!
What if my symptoms are more sporadic and don’t come every month?
The herbs are very safe and can act preventively. Many also find that taking the Cycle Balancer allows them to have an easier cycle in general, suffering less from other symptoms such as mood swings and fatigue. If you choose, the Cycle Balancer can be taken only when symptoms occur—however, it is more effective to get ahead of them by taking the Cycle Balancer before symptoms begin every month.
Is there anyone who should not take these herbs?
Do not take if you are on any type of blood thinner, as herbs are contraindicated for use. Do not take if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. This is not a complete list of all interactions that may occur—always ask your healthcare provider if any herbs may interact with other medicines that you take.
Are these herbs safe? Are there any side effects?
Verified by hundreds of years of research and 2000+ years of usage, these herbs are considered very safe, and there are minimal predicted side effects. However, if you experience digestive upset, please discontinue use. If this or any other condition persists, contact your primary care physician. Ask your health care provider if any herbs may interact with other medicines that you take.

How are the formulas personalized?
We use a Chinese medicine system called Pattern Diagnosis to identify and group a wide range of symptoms into a simple pattern of imbalances. Your pattern is considered the root of your disorder(s), and your treatment is tailored based on your unique combination of symptoms. The answers you provide in the online health assessment help us determine your body’s pattern (or patterns) and the herbal formula needed to treat it.
What does this taste like?
All formulas contain mint for a refreshing and cooling flavor. Plus, mint has been shown to have a pain-reducing and detoxing effect, and is proven to be effective in the treatment of dysmenorrhea and PMS. The other flavor notes are slightly bitter and earthy. If you are having trouble with the herbal taste, try diluting it in a small amount of water or tea and adding honey and lemon. Over time, your taste buds will naturally begin to enjoy the taste. Just like acquiring a taste for fine wine or coffee, it doesn’t always happen on the first try! There...
Can I take the herbs if I’m on the pill/ taking birth control?
Elix can absolutely be used alongside birth control. While the herbs help with hormonal imbalances, they are not so powerful that they would overcome the hormonal contraceptive so won't affect efficacy. But they will still have their anti-inflammatory, pain reducing, mood balancing, etc. actions in order to reduce cycle-related symptoms.
What if I have PCOS, fibroids, endometriosis, or another condition?
While our formulas won’t cure those conditions, research shows these herbal blends could help alleviate your symptoms. To play it safe, we suggest consulting your doctor before combining this with your existing medication.
What causes period pain? How do these herbs help with that?
During menstruation, your uterus contracts to expel its lining. Hormone-like substances known as prostaglandins trigger the uterine muscle contractions. Higher levels of prostaglandins are associated with pain, inflammation, and more severe menstrual cramps. To get at the root of the problem, these herbs act to regulate the levels of prostaglandins and other cycle-related hormones. They also treat painful symptoms by relaxing the uterine muscles, reducing pain, and regulating your cycle.
How does your pricing compare to others?
Elix formulas contain a higher concentration of herbs compared to anything else we could find on the market (others use less than the general recommended dosage or give less volume, and we refuse to skimp). We believe this is why it works for about 90% of women who try it. As you can imagine, there are certain costs associated with creating a sustainably sourced, high-quality product that we not only stand behind, but also feel proud to use ourselves. We try to make our prices more accessible than the costs of seeing an herbalist or acupuncturist to get personalized herbs...
How do I know it will be effective?
Our formulas are based on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) combinations that have been used for 2,500 years, and have been proven effective by modern research. We are constantly improving our formulas by staying current on the latest research. If you’d like to read more on the science, check out each of our Ingredient Detail pages.
What if I’m trying to get pregnant?
The herbal formulas are safe (and even beneficial!) to take while trying to conceive, but you should not take it while you are pregnant. If you think you might be pregnant, do not take the treatment in the days leading up to expected menstruation (which are the normal instructions). Instead, take the herbs only once your period begins, and you know you're not pregnant. The herbs are most effective when you are able to get ahead of the symptoms, but they still work when you are already experiencing them—you just may need to increase your dosage frequency to 3-4x/day.
Does taking the online questionnaire and/or taking Elix’s herbal treatments replace a visit to a doctor?
Absolutely not! Please be sure to consult your primary health care physician before starting any new supplement routine.Curious how to talk to your doctor about Elix? A good place to start is to show them our Meet The Herbs page, which gives an overview of our research. If you take our online health assessment you'll be sent a personalized recommendation for an herbal formula, which is also great to bring to your doctor for review.
