What causes period pain? How do these herbs help with that?

During menstruation, your uterus contracts to expel its lining. Hormone-like substances known as prostaglandins trigger the uterine muscle contractions. Higher levels of prostaglandins are associated with pain, inflammation, and more severe menstrual cramps. To get at the root of the problem, these herbs act to regulate the levels of prostaglandins and other cycle-related hormones. They also treat painful symptoms by relaxing the uterine muscles, reducing pain, and regulating your cycle.

What if I have PCOS, fibroids, endometriosis, or another condition?

While our formulas won’t cure those conditions, research shows these herbal blends could help alleviate your symptoms. To play it safe, we suggest consulting your doctor before combining this with your existing medication.

How do I know it will be effective?

Our formulas are based on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) combinations that have been used for 2,500 years, and have been proven effective by modern research. We are constantly improving our formulas by staying current on the latest research. If you’d like to read more on the science, check out each of our Meet The Herbs page.

What does this taste like?

All formulas contain mint for a refreshing and cooling flavor. Plus, mint has been shown to have a pain-reducing and detoxing effect, and is proven to be effective in the treatment of dysmenorrhea and PMS. The other flavor notes are slightly bitter and earthy. If you are having trouble with the herbal taste, try diluting it in a small amount of water or tea and adding honey and lemon. Over time, your taste buds will naturally begin to enjoy the taste. Just like acquiring a taste for fine wine or coffee, it doesn’t always happen on the first try! Many of our users have said it tastes like honey with wildflowers!

There are many products on the market that taste bland or fruity sweet. Those formulas generally have low quantities of herbs in them. We wanted our formula to be as effective as possible, so we kept the herbal concentration high—even if it means sacrificing a small amount of taste. If you’re used to drinking Chinese herbs, you’ll find comfort in the bitter, earthy aromas with a hint of spice in the finish

Can I take the herbs if I’m on the pill/ taking birth control?

Elix can absolutely be used alongside birth control. While the herbs help with hormonal imbalances, they are not so powerful that they would overcome the hormonal contraceptive so won't affect efficacy. But they will still have their anti-inflammatory, pain reducing, mood balancing, etc. actions in order to reduce cycle-related symptoms.

What if I’m trying to get pregnant?

The herbal formulas are safe (and even beneficial!) to take while trying to conceive, but you should not take it while you are pregnant. If you think you might be pregnant, do not take the treatment in the days leading up to expected menstruation (which are the normal instructions). Instead, take the herbs only once your period begins, and you know you're not pregnant. The herbs are most effective when you are able to get ahead of the symptoms, but they still work when you are already experiencing them—you just may need to increase your dosage frequency to 3-4x/day.

How does your pricing compare to others?

Elix formulas contain a higher concentration of herbs compared to anything else we could find on the market (others use less than the general recommended dosage or give less volume, and we refuse to skimp). We believe this is why it works for about 90% of women who try it. As you can imagine, there are certain costs associated with creating a sustainably sourced, high-quality product that we not only stand behind, but also feel proud to use ourselves. We try to make our prices more accessible than the costs of seeing an herbalist or acupuncturist to get personalized herbs (which would typically be at least $65-150+ for the consult then $60-100 for the herbs).

Does taking the online questionnaire and/or taking Elix’s herbal treatments replace a visit to a doctor?

Absolutely not! Please be sure to consult your primary health care physician before starting any new supplement routine.

Curious how to talk to your doctor about Elix? A good place to start is to show them our Meet The Herbs page, which gives an overview of our research. If you take our online health assessment you'll be sent a personalized recommendation for an herbal formula, which is also great to bring to your doctor for review.

How do I cancel an upcoming order?
