What led you to and what is your background in TCM?
I started using TCM myself when I was experiencing bad PMS mood swings in my late 20’s. I had been on birth control and decided I wanted to get off of it and try a more natural approach. In addition, I was studying Mandarin Chinese in college and had the opportunity to live and study in Taiwan. I had already been studying western herbal medicine and when I returned from China, I enrolled in acupuncture college in Santa Monica and have now been practicing for almost 25 years—the best decision I ever made!

Tell us more about your current roles in the TCM field? What are you most passionate about?
I am presently the Dean of Clinical Education at Emperors College in Los Angeles, CA. I also teach students TCM herbal medicine courses and classes on Chinese philosophy, medicine, and gynecology. I am most passionate about empowering patients in their healthcare choices, especially supporting people going through hormonal transitions in infertility, PCOS, PMS, and menopause. I love teaching people about herbal medicine and how this medicine from the earth can help them to shift their own health journey.

What do you love about Elix? Why did you decide to join Elix as an advisor?
What I love about Elix is that it truly aligns with my own values as a Doctor of TCM: striving for the highest quality care and utilizing superior herbs while educating people in order to empower them in their own health choices. This is why I feel privileged to be a part of this advisory board! I also love the attention, care, design, and beauty of all of Elix’s products and how passionate the Elix team is about herbal medicine!
-
What about Elix's mission excites you?
I love that Elix’s mission is to inspire people to support their reproductive health challenges through the use of ancient wisdom and modern medicine. When people become empowered in their health choices through a deeply personal experience, I have seen how it cascades over into other parts of their lives; in this way, Elix’s mission is profoundly life changing!
-
What are your favorite Elix formulas?
I absolutely love Ginger Aide! I have never tasted such a high quality ginger product made with so much attention and care. I always recommend it to my pregnant patients or friends who have issues with nausea. I keep it on my desk and find it especially useful if I am having nausea from a headache— I also love that it tastes delicious and is made without alcohol. I like to take it straight by the dropperful because it is just so tasty, but I also put it in my green tea.
-
How do you incorporate TCM principles into your daily life?
In ancient China there was a famous saying, ‘the doctor only gets paid when the patient is well’. Imagine if we used herbs in this way—that we were using TCM principles while we are well for prevention instead of intervention? Personally I practice Tai Chi and try to incorporate the ideals of yin-yang balance into my daily life through diet, meditation, tai chi, and herbs.
