Tell us about yourself, where did you study? Where did you grow up?
I’m a west coast girl by heart, but I found my way to the Colorado mountains after exploring different parts of our country (and world). I have a bachelor's degree in marketing and human development from Boston College, and a masters degree in Oriental Medicine from Southwest Acupuncture College in Boulder, Colorado. In my spare time I love getting outdoors either hiking or skiing, coming up with healthy creations in the kitchen, listening to health podcasts, and exploring with my husband and daughter.
What brought you into the world of Traditional Chinese Medicine? How has it changed your life?
I was introduced to Eastern philosophy during undergrad, and growing up a type A overachiever, it shifted my worldview drastically toward balance. I was later introduced to Traditional Chinese Medicine at The Open Center in New York City, a holistic teaching and training community center. I was hooked! I had finally found a medical philosophy that supports the innate healing abilities of our own body! Shortly after, I realized that helping people along their healing journey is my true calling and decided to go back to school for Traditional Chinese Medicine. I use the wisdom of TCM daily with my own lifestyle choices.
What do you love most about your work?
I believe that the body has the incredible ability to heal itself with the right conditions and tools, and TCM offers us a lot of tools for self-healing. What I love most about doing this work is helping each person I work with find which of those tools will help them reach their wellness goals. I love the connections I make with people, learning more about their journey and guiding them along their way to a more full, joyful, and healthier life!
What advice do you have for incorporating TCM into our lives?
Tune-in to your body’s signals and symptoms, as these are all messages your body is giving you about what is and isn’t working. Many of us tend to ignore these signals until they are screaming at us through debilitating symptoms. By tuning in earlier, we have an opportunity to change the trajectory of our wellness before things get out of hand. For example, if you tend to experience an abundance of heat related symptoms, you can use the wisdom of Traditional Chinese Medicine to incorporate more cooling foods into your diet (cucumber, watermelon, raw vegetables) and less warming foods (spicy foods, alcohol, coffee).
With your expertise, what are some tips for a holistic approach while on your period?
First and foremost, listen to your body! For many of us this should be a time of rest, engaging in light movement like yoga, walks, or stretching instead of intense exercise. As for dietary advice, it’s best to try and limit intake of alcohol, sugar, and caffeine while increasing fiber intake (eat your veggies!) in the week before your menses (well, always, but at least during that week before). And lastly, be kind to yourself!
What happens in a health coaching session?
Each coaching session is really personalized depending on your individual wellness goals and current lifestyle. During a session, we’ll talk about your menstrual journey and see how Cycle Balance is a part of your life, then we’ll move on to your menstrual and general wellness goals and come up with a small daily action that will help you achieve those wellness goals. Once I know more about your goals and current lifestyle, we’ll talk about what small daily actions could make a big difference for you! You will also receive a follow up email detailing what we talked about and what tools will be most useful for you so you can be present during the session.
Who should join a health coaching session?
- Anyone who wants to maximize their experience on Cycle Balance and get the most out of their whole cycle.
- Anyone who feels frustrated by an only Western approach to medicine and health, who is interested in incorporating both Eastern and Western philosophy to reach their wellness goals.
- Anyone with wellness goals they haven’t been able to meet who needs some additional guidance from a certified health coach!
How can you sign up for a health coaching session with you?
If you’d like to sign up for a session, here’s a link to my calendar. I can’t wait to meet you and work together on meeting your goals!
