The Story and Symbolism Behind Our Seal

At the core of Elix is the idea that our bodies are harmoniously interconnected and that to heal one area, we must tune in and view our health holistically. In pursuit of our mission to support your healing, every decision we make - from the herbs we use to how we design each individual formula - is made with intention. The Elix seal on our products is no exception. 

The story of our seal begins with our founder Lulu Ge in southern China. While growing up, Lulu learned about Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) from her grandfather who ran the local hospital in Hunan. It was he who introduced Lulu to the TCM principles of holistic healing and balance that later inspired Elix. Lulu recalls her grandfather saying, “the happier we are, the healthier we can be,” and it’s with these words in mind that Lulu founded Elix to help women and people who menstruate heal, both physically and mentally.

Capturing Our Mission 

Our seal represents Elix’s story and authenticity. It symbolizes our commitment to creating an organic, ethically sourced product that you can trust. But even beyond that, it reflects our mission to support your healing journey to menstrual wellness.

Because of this, we chose to center our seal around the Chinese characters meaning “to cherish, to treasure.” Lulu’s grandfather drew the red calligraphy that you see in the seal, bringing his role with Elix full circle. We’re proud to have a brand that serves as a tribute to both him and Traditional Chinese Medicine.

We also felt it was important that our seal reflect the Elix brand as a whole, notably the meaning behind our name. Elix is a combination of the words “elixir” and “helix.” Together, these words represent how Elix combines ancient healing wisdom with modern science to develop personalized herbal treatments that support our holistic health.

The seal also represents the dichotomy we so often experience in our bodies and lives. We wanted to communicate strength. But not only strength through acting strong, but also strength through vulnerability. We see Elix as being far more than just another product you take – it’s part of your daily ritual to live holistically. And because of this, we’re committed to supporting your healing journey every day of your cycle. During our live sessions, Elix’s medical experts are here to answer your questions, and when you want to connect with others, our robust Instagram community is here. Creating a safe space where we can be honest and vulnerable together enables us each to be our own best healer. Together, we can overcome the ups and downs that life throws at us and focus on finding harmony within ourselves.

The Elix 'X' 

 This idea of dichotomy is represented in our seal through the letter ‘X’ in Elix. If you look at our logo, you’ll notice that the Elix ‘X’ is composed of one straight line and one curved. This design is a nod to Yin and Yang, the most fundamental principle of Chinese Medicine.

In essence, Yin and Yang represent balance and harmony in the universe, nature and our daily lives. Yin stands for rest, relaxation and is representative of the evening. On the other hand, Yang symbolizes strength, energy, movement and the daytime hours.

While these may seem at odds, Yin and Yang complement one another. Finding balance between them is not about achieving a static state but maintaining dynamic movement. Our bodies and the natural world are constantly in flux, and by turning inward we can learn how to move with the changes rather than push against them.

The motif of the repeating Elix ‘X’ around the outside of the seal symbolizes this notion of balance and strength. Or, as Lulu likes to say, a forward step in becoming our best health advocates and leaving the solutions that have failed us behind.
